Description

Removal of Canopy Tree within 6m of Front Boundry Removal is requested due to the poor condition, structural defects and unsuitable location of this mature Honey Locust (Gleditsia triacanthos). The tree has a significant long-term structural defect to one of its principal stems, with a large section of bark and cambium missing and extensive exposed, weathered timber. The tree is multi-stemmed and the damage extends toward the lower structural union. The canopy also contains substantial deadwood and visible dieback, with numerous bare and dead branch sections throughout the upper crown. The tree is located immediately adjacent to the front footpath and close to overhead services. Its root system is also in direct conflict with essential property infrastructure, with large structural roots growing immediately around the water meter and water service pipe. This restricts access to the service and creates an ongoing risk of displacement or damage as the roots continue to grow. Due to the combination of: extensive trunk damage and exposed timber; canopy dieback and deadwood; multi-stemmed structure; proximity to the public footpath and overhead services; and direct conflict with the water meter and underground water infrastructure, the tree is considered unsuitable for retention in its current location. Pruning would not rectify the existing structural stem damage or resolve the conflict between the root system and essential infrastructure. Full removal is therefore requested on the grounds of tree condition, structural integrity, safety, infrastructure conflict and site suitability.
